Hours and hours of rehearsal time is the first thing I heard when the Crutches fired up their amps and played me a few songs from their newest batch of material. The rhythm section (Daniel Firth on drums, Marc Haik on bass, and Galen Martin on electric guitar) drives hard and steady, laying a sturdy foundation for guitarist Matt Butzlaff and pianist Jack Marshall to decorate as they see fit. On top of that, Galen lays down his vocals, singing the poetry that folks have come to know him for, and shouting out when it suits to emphasize his point.

The Crutches have long been a staple of the South Mississippi music scene. The band has gone through various iterations through the years, morphing from rock and roll to bluegrass and country, and now landing in the heavy Americana territory that lies somewhere in between. Their new material pulls from all previous directions and brings it together in a way that highlights all of the groups strengths.

So far, in 2025, The Crutches and MMG have partnered up to record THREE brand new singles, and are currently in the planning stages to do a few more. For more information about what The Crutches are up to, you can find them on Facebook HERE
